Valerie Blanchard Bio

Paris 1965

She had a very nomadic childhood. From the age of 19, she begins to work in very diverse sectors, from agriculture to music.
She spent some time in the circus world and also lived for 8 years in South America.
Later she discovered her pictorial vocation when she posed as a model for the painter Toshima Yasumasa in Granada (Andalusia).
Since 1993 she regularly exhibits her work in France, Spain, Germany and Belgium.

Valerie Blanchard paints what goes on and passes before her eyes, like others photographing, at the mercy of her travels and pilgrimages, places where she lives …
Her paintings represent small everyday scenes of the human being, on the beach, in bars, neighborhood parties, shopping … as a sociology study, which instead of expressing with lyrics, does so with images.

After taking notes and sketches in a notebook, she returns to her workshop to capture with paintings on the canvas.
Her work is full of bright colors, inside 1 style falsely “naif” and with a note of irony. The abundance in details, requires of the spectator, a slow and meticulous observation.
Her work resembles an “Afro – Latin American” mestizaje, influenced by Botero, but with a style that makes her work truly unique.
